Can you still use Windows Live Messenger?
Microsoft’s MSN Messenger, or Windows Live Messenger as it’s now known, will be fully retired on October 31st. MSN Messenger started off life as a basic instant messenger without much bloat and just text communications. Microsoft gradually started improving Messenger with calling capabilities for Windows XP users.

It is testing a new ‘Add Contact’ request feature that allows users to chat with a contact on Messenger by merely adding that contact to the smartphone. This means that users will be able to chat with their contacts through Messenger without being friends on Facebook.
Why Windows Live Messenger is not working?
Ensure that msnmsgr.exe is allowed in your firewall software. If you have disabled the firewall in the past, it may still be blocking Windows Live Messenger, try to restart the firewall. After the firewall software is running, make sure that Windows Live Messenger is enabled through the firewall.
Can I retrieve MSN Messenger conversations?
To find your MSN Messenger chats backups go to C:\Documents and Settings\\\My Documents\My Received Files\ and open the folder with the same name as your Microsoft account. Then, click History to access your chat history and find the chats you’d wish to see.
