Publishers are routinely using plagiarism detection software to verify the originality of papers submitted to their journals. Most major publishers are members of CrossCheck which uses the iThenticate software to scan papers for instances of plagiarism.
Can you check plagiarism hard copy?
While it is possible to detect plagiarism if assignments are submitted in hard copy, if these same assignments are submitted electronically, the whole process is made considerably easier because academics are in a position to ‘fight fire with fire’.
What level of plagiarism is acceptable?
There is no defined percentage match that indicates that your work is, or is not, plagiarized. A match of 40% may be perfectly acceptable, so long as your work is presented and referenced correctly. Conversely, a match of only 4% may indicate that your work is underpinned by insufficient sources.
